LOVE: Three men I'd throw myself at (if I weren't already attached and if they were straight or not married)

1) Patrick Robinson, who is like the Maxwell of the fashion world (only Maxwell isn't rocking a 'fro these days.) Robinson had me sweating Perry Ellis clothing in the early '00's before making Paco Rabanne cool again. Now he's tackling the giant sinking retail ship that is the Gap by signing on as its executive director of fashion design, a move the company announced yesterday. I'm confident he's capable of making the brand cooler than it's been.

2) Marc Jacobs, my fashion crush since the age of 21. He just joined MySpace land today. Become his friend by clicking here.

3) Mos Def, even though he has five bazillion kids and umpteen rumored ex-wives. All jokes aside, I could watch him on the big screen or on stage all day. He performs his first full-length live concert in ages this Saturday at the Highline Ballroom in Manhattan. Click here for deets.

LIFE: I love my period

While monthly cramps, moodiness and nausea sucks, I won't be asking my doctor to write me a prescription for Lybrel, the new pill that obliterates menstruation completely as long as a woman takes it. Here's why:

1) It doesn't quite feel natural.

2) How else to make sure you aren't pregnant than by those three to five days of bloodshed (doctors admit that no form of birth control has a zero failure rate)?

3) I've always viewed my cycle as a rite of passage, a bond I share with other women. Corny, yes. But true.

4) The medical community has no long-term data on the affects of years' worth of missed periods.

5) The company's reasons for creating the pill is partly based on lame research claiming that menstruation causes "absenteeism" at work and school according to an article in the New York Times.

LIFE: On our to-do list this week

New York

"The Black Panthers: Making Sense of History," by Stephen Shames
"Time of Change," by Bruce Davidson
Aperture Gallery
547 West 27th Street
(212) 505-0555

Stephen Shames, the official photographer of the Black Panthers, shows off his work from 1967 to 1973 alongside Bruce Davidson's pics chronicling the non-violent resistance movement during the Civil Rights period.

"Bloodlines," by McCallum & Tarry
May 17 thru June 23

Bradley McCallum and Jacqueline Tarry, a husband and wife team, are two of the more compelling voices coming out of Brooklyn's art scene right now. The exhibit continues their exploration of race and ideology, this time through a series of hauntingly beautiful black and white paintings based on images from the Civil Rights Era.

WARDROBE: Coming to America: TopShop

So Women's Wear Daily just reported that Phillip Green, the head of TopShop, will finally bring the chain to the States with three store openings in Manhattan. On one hand, I'm elated because I won't have to wait for rare trips to London to get my fix. On the other, I'm bummed that the TopShop stuff in my closet won't be as "special" anymore now that the store will become as popular as H&M.

WARDROBE: It's here

Kate Moss's collection for TopShop hit the U.S. today. The collection is on sale at Barneys New York and Opening Ceremony. Problem is, the offerings on Barneys's Web site is kind of lame. I suggest making a trip a store instead.

WARDROBE: Flats v. Manolos

It seems like light years ago when "Sex in the City" had every New York girl teetering about in Manolo Blahniks during the day and night. Now, literally everyone wears flats (during the day at least.) Practically every girl I saw on the street yesterday had on a knockoff version of those Tory Burch ballerinas with the coin on the top. I'd rather walk around in these jelly Marc Jacobs flats instead.
p.s. Not that I no longer appreciate a good pair of Manolo's. The fabled Manolo Blahnik sample sale happens May 9 at the Warwick Hotel, 54th Street and 6th Avenue (in New York). The public can get in at noon.

LIFE: Home sick, still: Stream of consciousness: Channel surfing

-I just watched big 'Trece's even bigger fiance, Sugarfoot, celebrate their engagement by making whipped cream out of ranch dressing and sugar before going up to the bedroom on the Three Six Mafia show, "Adventures in Hollyhood." "She is hooooooood," Juicy J said as he watched her waddle up the staircase. Three Six Mafia brought her to L.A. from Memphis (on the BUS, not the plane) so that 'Trece could propose to her with a $7,000 engagement ring (couldn't he have put $300 of that amount towards a plane ticket?) I'm having an epiphany, hood is selling right now. "Flavor of Love: Charm School Girls" = hood = hugely popular. "I Love New York" = hood = high ratings. I rest my case.

-I shouldn't have had Ethiopian food last night. While the spices opened up my nasal passageways, the spices did my still-recovering stomach in.

LIFE: Guilty Pleasures Part III

My friend Amy sent me a link to this Muppet Personality Test and now I can't stop taking all of other quizzes on the Web site. Here's what I've found out about myself so far (click lines to take the tests):

-If I were a puppet, I'd be Miss Piggy.

-If I were an ice cream flavor, I'd be Rocky Road (because I "know how to have fun" and am a "trendsetter" not because I'm rocky, duh.)

-My inner color is purple.

-If I were a flower, I'd be a lily.

WARDROBE: A-ha!

About a month ago, Women's Wear Daily made a big deal of the fact that Phillip Lim's rosette t-shirt dress ($472) is sold everywhere, causing him to create a tank version for customers who couldn't get an original. But while shopping in SoHo today, I found the short sleeve "sold out" dress in Barneys Co-op. I also saw the same version for sale on four different Web sites. So you've got choices.
