WARDROBE: And the school term begins

An editor friend was joking at the Trovata show about how tonight felt like our equivalent of "back to school" day. We completely agree. August is always such a blissfully lazy month and Fashion Week always comes and ends the vacation mood too soon. But at least the busy work week kicked off on a festive note. We started that night at the Van Cleef & Arpels bash at the Hammerstein Ballroom, ate too many mini pulled pork hors d'oeuvres, and obsessed over our fashion crush Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz when we should have been watching the runway show happening on stage. Next, we cabbed it over to Trovata's party/blink-and-you-missed it runway show. The collection was teeny tiny. But the surprise performance by Perry Farrell (he sang "Jane Says," which was our official white boy California rock jumpoff in the 6th grade) made up for it. The other bonus: meeting Sang A, an up-and-coming handbag designer with a flair for hardware. We especially think she's on the cusp of blowing up just for the brilliant tote she's carrying in this picture: it has a built-in pocket for a laptop, which would come in handy for an editor during Fashion Week.
